CELTA Course Content

How is the CELTA delivered?

The CELTA training course is made up of a minimum of 140 contact hours. During the course, you will:

  • • attend input sessions covering all aspects of teaching English as a second language (TEFL/TESOL)
    • benefit from directed lesson planning and tutorial support
    • complete six hours of assessed teaching practice
    • receive constructive feedback on your teaching practice from your tutors and peers
    • complete four assessed assignments (750 to 1,000 words each)
    • have the opportunity to observe experienced TEFL/TESOL professionals (six hours in total)


  CELTA assessment

  There is no final written exam, but you will be assessed  on:

 • your lesson planning and teaching
 • your ability to apply what you learn in the classroom
 • your awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of your teaching
 • your contribution to group input and feedback sessions
 • your written assignments

By the end of the CELTA training course, you will have:

an internationally-recognised qualification in TEFL/TESOL
• a solid foundation in lesson planning and teaching
the techniques and tools for effective teaching
• received guidance during your own development as a teacher
• an awareness of different approaches to student-centred English language  teaching
