The ACE TESOL Teacher Certification Program comprises a series of specialised courses that upskill both new and experienced English language teachers to improve and accelerate the learning outcomes of their students.
The Program starts with Essential Techniques for Communicative Language Teaching, which equips participants with practical techniques and approaches for teaching grammar, vocabulary, and the four English language skills - reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Participants also develop proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom, developing classroom materials, and using assessment techniques to track and accelerate student progress. A key component of this course includes observing experienced teachers and peers before being observed teaching real students. In addition to equipping newer teachers with the essential foundation for effective classroom instruction, Essential Techniques for Communicative Language Teaching provides even the most experienced teachers with innovative strategies to effectively develop English language knowledge and skills in a student-centred, communicative way.
After completing Essential Techniques for Communicative Language Teaching, Program participants will choose three 15-hour electives from the two streams - Young Learners and General English.
The courses in the Young Learners stream include Classroom Techniques for Young Learners, Teaching Approaches for Young Learners, and Child Protection and Very Young Learners. These courses apply and adapt many of the techniques and principles from Essential Techniques for Communicative Language Teaching to a primary school context, taking into account the specific needs of younger language learners.
The courses in the General English stream include Responding to Learner Needs and Materials Development, Online Resources and Teaching Techniques, and Essential Language Analysis for Teaching. These electives build on the techniques from Essential Techniques for Communicative Language Teaching by focusing on a range of teaching approaches that utilise the in-depth knowledge and flexibility of more seasoned teachers, that include the use of technology in a variety of classroom settings, and that focus on in-depth language analysis that would be necessary when teaching teenagers and adults.
Upon completion of three of the above electives, teachers who obtain an overall IELTS score of 6.5 will become ACE Certified Teachers: Essential Level.
For those wishing to take their career and their skills to the Advanced level, the final course in the ACE TESOL Teacher Certification Program is Action Research and Mentoring, which empowers participants to make positive changes in their classrooms and the classrooms of their peers. This course prepares participants to take on more responsibility in their schools and positions them to become leaders in the educational landscape. Upon completion of this course, any participant who obtains an overall IELTS score of 7.5 will become an ACE Certified Teacher: Advanced Level.
